Our Story

The Fraser People Story

Born out of a desire to do something different and deliver the best possible outcomes for all we work with, Fraser People launched in 2017. With a vast and varied background of experience in recruitment, HR and career development, Carol Fraser wanted to bring that together and create a positive and impactful boutique business.

Everything that Fraser People do reflects Carol’s values – strong relationships, honesty and exceptional customer service.

“We put people first, it’s that simple”.

Fraser People was formally founded in 2017, and the company now provides a complete range of recruitment services and HR solutions across all industries for small, big and large companies.

Meet Carol Fraser

Founder and Director, PGDipBus HRM

Kia ora, I’m Carol, the founder of Fraser People, a company based on my approach to people and life.

Having spent many years as a recruitment specialist, HR consultant and everything in between, I knew there was a different way to do things. So as I sat at my kitchen table, where many conversations and great ideas were dreamt up with family and friends, I knew I wanted to create something. I wanted to help transform workplaces and help people set their careers on a new trajectory; I wanted to use my energy, passion, knowledge and professional expertise to create Fraser People.

I am passionate about the potential of every person

Along the journey to Fraser People becoming a reality, I knew I had the credentials too, the post-graduate Diploma in HR Management from the University of Auckland, I had held various senior recruitment and consulting roles in multi-national and boutique firms since 2003. I also knew I was widely respected within the industry, with a reputation for immediately swinging into action and getting things done!

However, life rarely goes from A to B in one straight line and, putting it mildly, life threw everything at me, including the sudden death of my husband. On reflection, these challenges helped drive me on and bring my vision to life.

During this time, I kept reminding myself that clients and candidates I’d met along the way spoke highly of my honesty, integrity, sense of humour and straight-up approach. Something I would not be able to achieve if I had not worked closely with people to really understand their needs.

These values have given me long-lasting business relationships, and I am seen as a trusted partner and a valuable sounding board.

I also love that candidates have consistently said constructive feedback and willingness to help them discover their own passions and talents to find a job they will love is what makes Fraser People different.

When I’m not working hard, I love spending time with family, getting out on the water, and walking with Izzy, my rescue dog & Chief Happiness Officer. I am passionate about travel, capturing moments and enjoying the best coffee and wine our Kiwi lifestyle offers.

“If I was to describe my overall philosophy, it is to treat people well and have a good laugh along the way. Life’s too short for anything else.”

Meet Izzy

Chief Happiness Officer

Izzy is our 5-year-old rescue pup. She loves morning walks on the beach before work, and has been known to join in on a video call or two with clients when in the office. Izzy is the giver of cuddles and a real boost for productivity.

When she’s not looking out for visitors, she will often snooze in her giant bean bag and there may be a sprinkle or two of her fur as a reminder of her to all she meets.

Impact in the Community

We are a boutique business with a huge heart, striving to make as big a social impact as possible. We believe it’s important to see the bigger picture and look beyond traditional measures of success. When she started the business, Carol knew she would build it around her values. She does a lot to give back, and is a mentor in her personal life, and wanted to find a way to also give back through her business.

It’s proof that small things can make a big difference. We work hard to achieve these positive social outcomes, which motivates us to work hard every day. It’s one of our special ingredients and another reason clients love working with Fraser People.

In 2014 I began mentoring a young Tamaki College student named Maria through the Future Leaders YWCA Programme. She obtained a scholarship through First Foundation for her tertiary studies and asked me to continue with her as her mentor. I’m immensely proud to say Maria completed a Bachelor of Social Sciences and is now working fulltime at MBIE.

It is one thing to see a young person succeed, like Maria has, but it is also beyond rewarding when that person feels like one of the family. I know that this is an important part of what I want to give back to my community, so I began a new mentoring journey this year with another talented scholar – Evelingi who is currently in her last year of high school.

Fraser People has partnered with The Good Registry whose mantra is to ‘gift kindness, not stuff’.

We wanted to find a way to give back through the business, reflecting our approach to people and business. This did just that, with the bonus of giving sustainably. So we now give successful candidates an opportunity through The Good Registry to donate to their favourite causes. We absolutely love that The Good Registry supports New Zealand charities and that we can pay it forward all while helping our candidates feel good.

We have had incredible feedback from both candidates who receive these vouchers and the clients where they are placed.

Carol says it’s about “just being a good human, treating people as you want to be treated. “That’s why I knew that the minute I could start giving back in my business, I would, and I’ve been able to do that through The Good Registry.”

RCSA membership

As proud corporate members of the RCSA community (Recruitment, Consulting & Staffing Association) the peak body for the recruitment and staffing industry in New Zealand, we are committed to their professional development programme, taking every opportunity to get involved in the training on offer.

We also complete a code of professional conduct and remain actively engaged in raising the bar in our industry. Acting in good faith, with fair and ethical methods is in our DNA. To further this commitment, Carol stood and was elected by her peers to the NZ Council in 2022, to give back to her industry. It is one thing to be part of an industry, but this opportunity was one to influence it.
